PnF-Summer's Over :Part Two:

    “Ferb...Ferb, wake up!!”  Phineas’ voice broke through the darkness of Ferb’s subconciousness.  His eyes fluttered open to see Gretchen’s face peering over him worriedly.  He shot straight up and hit foreheads with her.

    “Owww...”  They both moaned.  Ferb could hear Phineas’ muffled laughter.

    “What happened?”  Ferb asked.

    “Mr. Fletcher told you Perry is your brother and you fainted.”  Isabella explained, nudging Phineas in the ribs to get him to stop laughing.

    “Oh yeah...”  Ferb moaned.  On the edge of the couch he was laying on, human Perry was perched on the armrest in a green long sleeved shirt that was much too big for him and green pants.

    “You see son, your mum and I split up shortly after you boys were born.  She decided the fairest way to go about things was she take one twin and I take the other.”  Lawrence explained.  “The only time I ever heard about Perry was when she sent me a letter saying Perry ran away.”

    “We thought it was just a coincident that that nice man, Mr. Monogram, sold us a Platypus named Perry.” Linda added.

    “Hey Perry, how did you get turned into a platypus anyway?”  Phineas asked.

<FLASHBACK (again)>

    “Agent P, your sworn nemesis, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, has created a ray gun that turns people into animals.  He’s already gotten to the other agents.  It’s up to you to stop him.”  Major Monogram monologued.  Perry, in human form, saluted.  He ran to his hover car and blasted off into the Danville sky.  “Carl, he’s a good agent, but he doesn’t say much.”

“Right you are sir.”



    “Perry the little boy, what an unexpected suprise.  And by unexpected I mean COMPLETELY EXPECTED!!”  Dr.  Doofenshmirtz pulled a ray gun out from his lab coat and zapped Perry with it.  “Oh look at you!  You’re a cute little...okay, what are you?  Are you a duck or a beaver?  You’ve got a beaver tail and a bill.  We’ll, we’re just going to half to look this up.  Step this way to the Animal-Identifier-inator.”  Doofenshmirtz led Perry over to a machine with a computer screen.  It scanned him.  “Computing, computing, results!  Okay, it says here that you are a platypus!  They don’t do much you know...oh!  And they’re the only mammal that lays eggs.  Well, you learn something new every-hey!!”  The doctor was knocked backward by a slap from the platypus agent.  The ray gun spun from Doof’s hands.  Perry scooped it up and ran off the edge of the building, deploying his parachute.  “Curse you Perry the Platypus!!  Hey, that doesn’t sound too bad...”

<END FLASHBACK>

    “Uh...”  Perry could feel everyone’s eyes boring into him.  “Um...the magic of Disney?”  They all stared at him.

    “Oh.  Makes sense.”  Phineas replied.  They all nodded and agreed as Perry let out a sigh.

<END FLASHBACK>

    “Hey Ferb, the bathroom’s free.  I’ll meet you downstairs, ‘kay?”  Phineas told his stepbrother.  Ferb nodded.

    As he showered, he thought about how he felt about Perry being human and being his long lost twin brother.  Something didn’t feel right about it; Ferb didn’t like the idea that his pet for the majority of his life was now his brother.  Besides, Phineas was already Ferb’s brother.

    When he shut the shower off he could hear Linda calling for him to hurry up.  Ferb growled and thought ‘I’ll be ready when I’m ready...’  

    A few short minutes later, Ferb stepped out of the bathroom dressed and clean.  He went into his room, grabbed his suitcase and tool box, and took one last look around.  Suddenly Phineas called his name.  Ferb turned and walked down the stairs without another look back.

    Outside the car was parked and the family gathered around it.  Ferb could see Phineas was a bit upset about Isabella and their other friends not being there.  To be honest, Ferb was also a bit miffed that they didn’t show up.  But Candace and her stepfather were there.  Candace was also packed up, ready to move into her dorm at the Danville University, which was located on the edge of Lake Nosey.  She, Jeremy and Stacy would all be going to school there.

    “Bye dweebs.”  Candace said affectionately as she hugged each of her brothers goodbye.  “Be good.”  She hissed in their ears.  “I hear, that school has security cameras everywhere and I don’t want them to bust you.”

    “Gee Candace, that’s awful nice of you to say. “  Phineas replied.

    “No, what I meant was, if anyone’s gonna bust you, it’s gonna be me.”  Candace explained.  She turned and waved at Jeremy and Stacy, who had just pulled up behind the Flynn/Fletcher station wagon in Jeremy’s new car.

    “Well, goodbye boys.”  Mr. Fletcher said, wrapping his arms around each son in turn.  He smiled as Perry climbed into the car behind Mrs. Flynn.

    “Wait.  Perry’s coming with us?”  Ferb asked.

    “Yes.  He assured us he could get a scholarship.”  Linda answered.  “If not, we’ll pay his way.  I had to talk your father into it.”  She whispered into Ferb’s ear.  “Isn’t that great?!”

    “Yeah.  Just fantastic.”  Ferb muttered, climbing in the car after Phineas.

    “Goodbye!!”  The others called as the car drove away.  The three boys turned around and waved until they could no longer see the gathering.

    As Candace watched her brothers go, tears gathered in her eyes.  As she turned away, guitar music started playing.

    “Little Brother,
     I remember when you first came home
    Then came another
    Little brother of our own
    Little brothers
    Little brothers....”

    “Um, Stace?  Can you stop with the song?  You’re kinda bumming me out.”
